Programme Director and Chair of the HS&DR (Health Services Research) Board: Professor Ray Fitzpatrick

Professor Ray Fitzpatrick is Professor of Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Oxford, and Fellow and Dean of Nuffield College, Oxford. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. Ray's research is focused on health services research, especially evaluating outcomes of interventions, whether through trials or other study designs and with a focus on interventions for long term conditions. He has directed a range of research studies for the Department of Health on patient reported outcome measures (PROMs).

He was Chair of the Scientific Committee, National Prevention Research Initiative, between 2005 and 2011, and is Chair of the Research for Patient Benefit South Central Regional Advisory Committee. During 2008 and 2009, he chaired the Public Health Research Board, Office of Strategic Coordination of Health Research (OSCHR).

Associate Director and Chair of the HS&DR (Healthcare Delivery Research) Board: Professor Kieran Walshe

Kieran Walshe is Professor of Health Policy and Management at Manchester Business School (www.mbs.ac.uk), editor of the journal Health Services Management Research (hsmr.rsmjournals.com), and a board member of the Health Services Research Network and the European Health Management Association.

He has particular research interests in quality and performance in healthcare organisations; the governance, accountability and performance of public services; and the use of evidence in policy evaluation and decision-making. He has led a wide range of research projects funded by the ESRC, Department of Health, NIHR, and EU FP7 programme, and other government departments and NHS organisations.

Director of NETSCC, HS&DR and PHR: Dr Matt Westmore

Matt is a NETSCC Director and is responsible for the Health Services and Delivery Research programme (HS&DR), and the Public Health Research (PHR) programme.

During 2010-2011, Matt was an assistant director at NETSCC, in the Health Technology Assessment programme (HTA), responsible for HTA researchers, prioritisation, funding teams, and NICE technology assessment reports.

Matt first Joined NETSCC in 2009 as Assistant Director of Strategy and Development, working across all of NETSCC's activities and supporting its growth. Previously, Matt trained and worked as a medical physicist both within the NHS, and for a medical device company (for which Matt ultimately held the position of Technical Director).
